1. Scope and Rationale
Climate change is no longer a distant threat—it is a present and intensifying force that is fundamentally reshaping resource-dependent economies like agriculture, hydropower, and forest-based livelihoods. This monograph aims to explore the complex interplay between climatic vulnerabilities—such as temperature extremes, erratic precipitation, sea-level rise, and increased frequency of extreme events—and their cascading impacts on resource-dependent economies.
The urgency to document, understand, and mitigate these effects has never been greater. As climate anomalies strain socio-ecological systems, this issue invites interdisciplinary perspectives that blend empirical research, modeling studies, policy analysis, and innovative adaptation strategies.
2. Key Themes and Topics
We welcome submissions that investigate, but are not limited to, the following themes:
Water Resources Under Stress: Droughts, floods, glacial retreat, groundwater depletion, and river flow variability
Forests and Biodiversity Loss: Shifts in vegetation zones, forest diebacks, invasive species, and extinction risks
Soil and Agricultural Resilience: Erosion, salinization, carbon sequestration, and adaptive farming
Marine and Coastal Ecosystems: Coral bleaching, saltwater intrusion, mangrove degradation, and fisheries decline
Modeling and Predictive Tools: Climate simulations, early warning systems, remote sensing, and AI-driven forecasting
Governance and Policy Innovations: Nature-based solutions, climate-smart resource management, and participatory governance
Cultural and Indigenous Knowledge Systems: Traditional ecological knowledge for resilience building
Technology and Innovation in Climate Adaptation: Role of hydroinformatics, digital twins, and monitoring networks
3. Target Audience
This monograph is intended to attract contributions from environmental scientists, climatologists, hydroinformaticians, ecologists, geographers, economists, and policy analysts. It also welcomes insights from NGOs, Indigenous communities, and practitioners working in sustainability and resource governance.
4. Impact and Relevance
The knowledge synthesized in this issue will inform adaptive policy frameworks, enhance scientific understanding, and guide grassroots innovation. It aims to serve as a critical reference for shaping future research and decision-making on sustainable natural resource management in a changing climate.
